The 27-year-old, in his first season on the European Tour, ended the tournament with a six-under-par 65, the best round on the final day in South Africa.
That left Jamieson eight strokes behind Charl Schwartzel, the South African who retained the title after his 67 with his taylormade burner 2.0 irons .
But it meant he finished three strokes ahead of compatriot David Drysdale.
Jamieson's 11-under-par total at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club lifted him into 16th place in the Race to Dubai - the top Scot after four tournaments - two places above Drysdale.
Berwickshire 35-year-old Drysdale had started the day in contention for the title but slumped to a final-round 77 and equal 13th.
Jamieson, whose previous best finish was 30th in the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa in December with the fabulous burner 2.0 irons , graduated to golf's top tier after finishing 14th on the Challenge Tour money list last season.
The former Scottish Boys' Stroke-play champion's best senior finish was second at the Challenge Tour's Kazakhstan Open last year.
